Call for Submissions

Uncaged is an anthology of one-shot modules designed for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. Each one-shot centers on a classic female mythological creature found in the Monster Manual, including — but not limited to! — the following:

  • Hags
  • Witches
  • Succubi
  • Sirens
  • Medusas
  • Lamias
  • and more!

Submission Requirements

  • Reserve your place in the anthology by emailing your concept to ashleywarrenwrites@gmail.com by October 1st. This is just to ensure that a wide range of creatures is covered in the anthology.  Priority is given to female and non-binary creators.
    • Your pitch should include:
      • The creature/monster you plan to feature;
      • A brief synopsis of your adventure and how it subverts the traditional tropes/lore of your creature of choice;
      • The tier/level of your adventure.
  • If your piece is accepted, it must be a self-contained one-shot adventure designed for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. If you're not sure on word count, aim for 3000* words. (*Due to the high volume of submissions, this word count has been reduced to accommodate more adventures.) A formatting template will be provided to ensure consistency. (Note: Upon acceptance, authors/artists will receive a contract for retaining rights to their work and complying with the Dungeon Masters Guild IP licensing.)
    • Additional requirements:
      • Must use creature stats found in the Monster Manual. Reskinning existing creatures is welcome and encouraged, especially for monsters/creatures found in non-western cultures. The one-shot must heavily feature the creature of your choosing. The level/tier of your one-shot should be based on the challenge rating of your creature, even if your story does not involve fighting the creature.
      • Must take a unique, feminist approach to the classic archetype. (This does not mean that the creature/character needs to be "good" or sympathetic, but consider the lore that contributed to that archetype and how that can be reinvented in a creative way.)
  • Art submissions are welcome and encouraged!
  • The anthology will be published on Dungeon Masters Guild, and all contributors will be compensated via revenue share.

Deadline for completed one-shot: December 1, 2018

Tentative Release Date: January 2019
